Divisional Director, Asset Development, Highways England
Nicola began her career on a training programme with Strathclyde Regional Council, studying for a HNC in Civil Engineering. She held technician roles with Strathclyde, Argyll & Bute and Stirling Councils before moving into the private sector with Balfour Beatty.
In 2007 Nicola completed an MSc in Transport Planning & Engineering and has been involved in a wide variety of roles covering transport policy, strategic transport projects and regeneration programmes.
Nicola took up her role as Head of Local Infrastructure and Street Management at Cambridgeshire County Council in 2012 where she was responsible for the operational aspect of Cambridgeshire’s highway service delivering routine and planned maintenance and £25m of highway improvement projects. The role was also responsible for highway development management, road safety and traffic.
Prior to taking up her current role as Asset Development Divisional Director at Highways England in January 2016, Nicola was the Director of Highways and Transport at West Sussex County Council with overall responsibility for the safe and smooth operation of the County’s highway and transport network.
