The winner of the Road Safety Scheme of the Year 2017 is:

Scotland TranServ, on behalf of Transport Scotland identified a Killed and Serious Injured (KSI) accident rate 1½ times higher than average on the A75 which connects the ferry port of Stranraer to the UK’s major motorway networks. Working with specialists Clearview Intelligence and Coeval, we developed a bespoke solution to reduce accidents and save lives.

Judges’ comment:

An innovative approach identifying the class of vehicle causing issues and specifically targeting that class.

The Road Safety Scheme of the Year is awarded to an organisation which has introduced a scheme or project where through whatever means, such as innovation, design, use of relevant technology or brought about change in public attitude, has influenced a demonstrable reduction in road casualty statistics. This applies to a reduction or potential reduction in cycling accidents, pedestrian accidents or better safety measures for disabled road users, as well as drivers.
